Just so '80s (even if it's 1979): mechanical movements, blank expressions, Europop noise, sexy outfits on women who might as well be mannequins. And for some reason, I love it as much as I did in '79. It's cynical, like, "Are we having fun yet in our commercial pop-muzak world?" Lala lala lala lala la, lala lala lala la! without skipping. Black leather without sex. Products without joy. An artistic statement. Dadaism. Makes me feel 16 again.

This song was popular during my sophomore year in high school. It's notable for being the 1st technopop song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Strange video too. Looking at it now, it seems old fashioned (the 45s being played & flung about) & the sound effects. I've always wondered who the plain looking girl was (the one in the blue blouse wearing headphones singing along). She looks similar to one of my classmates.
