I think you're stuck a little too much in the 3rd Reich, dear! What you're describing applies to those years (1933-1945), but not to the years after the war. While it is true that she was met with protest during her concert tour in 1960, there were others who welcomed her very much in Germany. Noone was trying to force her to return. So let's get the facts straight: She chose to live in France as an American citizen by her own free will. Apparently, the U.S. was not an option.
