Just look for Orion in the night sky and start learning the constellations around it. Orion is very easy to find when it's out.

i don't get if canis major is actually seen with the naked eye, and the size is/has been known, why it's never included in the "size of earth and the sun compared to stars" montages people keep stealing from eachother and jewtubing

i think VV Cephei A is the biggest star we know of but VY Canis Majoris is second so it must be a little less than that. Its mind-boggling thinking of how small we really are in this universe.

Thx 2 Farid51. Very nice video. I love this night sky. I live in a valley in germany, but we have a bigger city near us. So the night sky isnt very clear, just the bigger ovjects come out. And here you see all the stars between. Love it, and i love the universe. Great thx 2 u. peace

im pretty sure canis majoris is bigger than W Cephai A, by about 5,000,000 Km. I read somewhere its nearin the end of its existence soon though.

Ahhh, good ol' Orion, Taurus and Canis Major. All great constellations to obeserve in the winter skies. Orion, personally in my opinion is a nce constellation to observe. Looking at M42 is a such a beautiful diffuse nebula.

i think u know witch star u mean.. u see the 3 stars in a line there.. under is rigel.. above betelgeuze (the redish star at 20 sec in top) to the left is sirius (brightest star..) and to the right (a bit how far sirius is away from the 3 stars at 20 sec) is VY canis majoris?
