Abstinence Only Ed. - Higher Pregnancy Rate & 25% STD RATE!

Uploaded by: riphotpotatomash
Video Description:
This is just fantastic. Don't get me wrong, it is horribly sad, but so freaking typical of everything about the Bush Administration one can't help but chuckle. It looks like the hundreds of millions of dollars thrown at abstinence only education yearly ain't working too well. In addition to increased pregnancy (who woulda thunk it), 25% of all teenage girls (that's 1 in 4 for the mathematically challenged) now have had an STD!!!!!

I agree that kids ... ( 8 months ago by givebirthathome)
I agree that kids need real sex education, but since the schools can't teach kids to read or do math (johntaylorgatto dot com), why assume that these dysfunctional institutions can do a better job with sex?
I believe that quite a few girls with difficulties *didn't* just have abstinence education. I have heard that teaching "refusal skills" is what works best to help girls; unfortunately, this is a far cry from the technical information we are politically best able to agree on.

This really is just nuts, there is so much more that effects teen pregnancy etc. than sex education-- the quality of your relationship with your parents for one--which is affected by daycare, how much your parents have to work, and how much they are under pressure; your own physical and mental health; the internet.
But you can count on Fox to tell you how to think INSIDE the old boxes.

clearly. but stats are stats. and the numbers were far better under Clinton when we had real sex ed. maybe its b/c parents have to work more under bush leaving kids home alone more often. at least we can all agree its terrible.
Yes, it really is. ... ( 8 months ago by givebirthathome)
Yes, it really is. Our whole culture is nuts about sex; look at the hysteria over Spitzer seeing a prostitute!
Its funny to read Wilhelm Reich, a shrink writing in the 20s in Germany, advocating things we have yet to accomplish.
Information is spreading though, via the internet. Cultivating an atmosphere of community, contesting rabid public sexual discourse, mentorship and examining our *personal* cultural sexual wounds will probably do more for kids' health than relying on the schools.

Teaching kids ... ( 8 months ago by midwest26)
Teaching kids abstinance without a moral base is useless because kids can be curious about new things. It is not just abstinance only programs it is parents not doing their jobs they are raising kids without morals. Back in the 50's you rarely heard of these problems. Your telling me that teens in America have never heard of condoms when they are sold in stores, and information is on the internet, and in books. Come on it is not like we live in a third world country out in the boon docks.
Girls need to be ... ( 8 months ago by midwest26)
Girls need to be taught self respect. You don't give yourself to any guy just because he looks good. Your body is God's house that is why we are to wait for marriage to have sex. Your not going to die if you don't have sex but you will die sooner if you have sex, and catch hpv- cancer, or aids. Not to mention all the other stds that can affect you having future children. So who cares what your friends think, and if they really were your friends they will respect your decision.
Giving kids ... ( 8 months ago by midwest26)
Giving kids vaccines, or contraceptives is like telling them it is okay to have sex as long as you use these. That is a false sense of security, and can lead to errors. I have heard from friends that condoms can break, allergic reactions to birth control pills, other contraceptive methods not inserted correctly, and gardasil can lead to infertility. Oh but they won't tell you that some girls have died from taking the vaccine do your research.
Bottom line is we ... ( 8 months ago by midwest26)
Bottom line is we need to stop expecting government to raise our kids, and do the job ourselves. With the way this educational system is you can't possibly expect them to do a good job. If it takes pictures to get it across to your kids so be it nothing wrong with a dose of reality.
Gardasil does not ... ( 8 months ago by midwest26)
Gardasil does not prevent hpv if you already have the virus, and abnormal tissue. So I'am very suspicious as to why our government would be forcing this vaccine on young girls in school without some other reason. Lots of girls in this country already have hpv. Population control by infertility seems to be the real reason for this vaccine.
Since America has a ... ( 8 months ago by midwest26)
Since America has a sexual atmosphere of sex in the media, magazines, and movies this really is no surprise. Kids are growing up to quickly. I remember wearing cartoon characters to school at age twelve now girls are dressing like they are twenty seven years old. The government is turning our kids into robots. Soon they will all act like Micheal Jackson who never had a childhood.

Yuck. I wouldn't want to be with a woman that slept with every guy in town. I believe God created sex as a special gift between a man and woman, not to be given away like candy. A woman 8 years asked me to have sex, and I told her that I wanted to be sure we would marry. I gave her a special part of me only to end up broken hearted. I would advise people to cherish love and sex. If you don't value love and monogamy, there is potential disease or death. I believe aids is no accident.

Population control ... ( 6 months ago by Swaller1776)
Population control by infertility? WTF? Instead of getting on youtube and spouting rhetoric, you might want to start READING. There should be a local library near you, they typically let you check out books free (but be careful, they give you fines if you keep the books out too long).

well i blame bush for this. people are gonna have sex period, why not teach them about safe sex it makes sense. bush is also responsible for keeping us in iraq we should have left a year ago. and having no idea about economics he spent our surplus with idiotic policies, besides that he was alright.

Helicon you must be one of those people that have ten different partners in one day. Ignorance is not knowing what actually is going on in the world. Kids are growing up to fast. I did not think about sex till about eighteen, and I'am born in 80.
Swaller1776, and ... ( 3 months ago by midwest26)
Swaller1776, and what book is that? The government will not tell you the truth. Why would I believe what I read in a book unless I see who the author is. There have been girls who have died after recieving the vaccine look it up. I just find it odd that they would make that mandatory without parental consent. It could affect children differently than others. Some could already have hpv rendering the vaccine useless.

Yes, but he did ... ( 2 months ago by Direness)
Yes, but he did help set up and push Federal funding for abstinence-only programs to pander to the right wing conservatives. So, in a way, he did help to create this problem. However, there are also the factors of class, economics, and culture to factor in. BUT, our children deserve access to information that could protect them from those factors introducing early sexual behavior and its consequences (stds, etc) - and our politicians have failed us in a bid for power, rather than common sense.

I'd like to make a comment on this:
Gardasil is not forced on girls in this country. Pamphlets advertising it are given teenage girls through the schools and physicians, but no girl is pulled away and gets stuck with the needle. Whether she gets the shot or not is her decision. America isn't that crazy... yet.
