You do choice a story of some number but parts (like the endings) are premade. As for this, this is the true ending, the true story is unknown but it wounld contain whats mention in the true ending.

Maria died on the ARK. It's more likely that Shadow was based on one of Sonic's ancestors, or that Sonic was created from Shadow directly.
