Although I was born in Newark, I grew up in Monmouth County close to such places as Asbury Park, Point Pleasant and Seaside, so our parents thought it was nuts to travel so far north for a day out. Of course that never stopped us(all five of us) from bugging them incessantly due to that amazing commercial jingle. The closest we ever got was seeing it from the Circle Line ferry ride in the late 60's. I still fantasize about the pool with the artificial waves.

I was 8 years old, living in Monmouth County the summer they closed the park. There was a church trip up there and my mother let my brother go, but I wasn't allowed to for some unknown reason. I live in sheer misery to this day that I never had a chance to go to this legendary place. God...kill me.

I can't believe I actually love listening to a commercial! Oh, in 1962 I found out "how great a kiss can feel when you stop at the top of the ferris wheel" down at Palisades Park!

When I was a youngster living in Massapequa, Long Island, New York; that commercial ran all the time and brings back so many memories. My family left new York when I was 15, but had a lot of chances to visit the park. This put a smile on my face.

I grew up on Long Island and as one of the other viewers said that commercial ran non stop during several summers in the 60s. I too remember bugging my folks to go (which we never did). I remember they had a promotional where they were advertising on matchbooks and a certain number had a picture of the Palisades "Pal" under the striker, if you got 1 it was good for a free pass. I did wind up going with my friends family the last year it was opened.

Too bad that no one has video on Olympic Park-the other North Jersey place. Both places were cheap, unlike today. Both places were on a pay as you ride basis, unlike today's marketing that keep people all day to get your money's worth.

the pool was so great. on the side were ladders at different levels. also, there was a big area with lockers, and a wide open space near the FALLS to lay your towel out on the Boards. swimming to the FALLS was death defying LOl, then you'd hang out Under the Falls, it was so big with so many kids and teens. we spent the entire day there all the time...i lived 15 mins. away, and me and the gang would take the bus up all the time. Great Great Great!!

I grew up in Edgewater & as a child I could see & hear PAP from my bedroom window. From age 3 to 6, thats how I went to sleep at nite. The only good thing about a hot August nite with only a fan. Alot of times I would climb in the window, watch, listen & fall asleep. Would love to see pics or vid of the park sign at nite viewed from edgewater. Thanks for keeping this alive.

I was 6 years old in 1969 when my mother & grandparents took us to Palisades Park. I remember my mother telling me that someone was going to tear it down to put up buildings. My innocent mind couldn't understand that at all! I remember having a fun time & this commercial brings back memories! They played it all the time! Thanks for posting!

LindaJB2, I too was 6 in '69 (became so that July 11th). I'm origanally from the upper west side of Manhattan. I believe I was a year or 2 younger than 6 for the one trip I made to PAP. MY innocent 45-year-old mind STILL bemoans its' absence! I read on the website that this ad aired "throughout the 1960s," and before a couple minutes ago, the refrain "Come On Over" has been in my head (quietly) for 38-odd years! Loved seeing it again. PP looks great on the website.

I can still remember my 2 year old brother (now 44) almost drowning in the wave pool! Good my folks were cool! It IS still ingrained in my memory, especially that great jingle. We moved to Florida when I was 6 and the near-drowned bro 4, but we made the summer trip to NY every year till '71. What a shame it's gone!

I grew up in the Bronx and our school would make a field trip here almost every year. What a great time we had! I remember hearing this jingle on WABC radio while listening to the greatest DJ's in the world--Cousin Brucie and Dan Ingram! So sad when they tore it down.

what great times. we used to go in every summer. sometimes we would go to anthony wayne state park if palisades was too crowded.i grew up on staten island but my aunt lived in ft. lee. i remember going to mickey mantle retirement day at yankee staduim in june 1969 and then we went to palisades. all the commercials on wabc were amazing. there can never be times like the 1960's and 70's again. i wonder if the kids who grew up in the 80's and 90's say the same. or my parents, in the 30's and 40's??
Thanks for the memories!!!
