RFLMAO... you have a career in comedy. Although I think personally, off-stage Branford is a pompous ass, less gracious than hsi more talented brother, Wynton. The Marsalis clan has more talent in their pinky fingers than Kenny G would ever dream of.

it is an interesting version, and these guys certainly are talented musicians, but this ain't coltraine. doesn't capture my imagination, they fail to capture the meaning behind the music, and that is makes coltraine's music rise above. coltraine was playing from his soul, not from a sheet of music.

this is a good attempt, trane's music should be accessible and the ashley kahn book is great on the subject

i definitely think Branford is smoother, but better? it is not a necessity to be smooth to play sax. Branford is definitely one of the smoothest i've ever heard though and he's one of my favorites, but no one beats the Trane!

wynton may have a bad attitude and i definitely doubt i'd like him as a person but as a musician he is amazing (when he's playing real jazz). most of what he chooses to do under his own name i dont like, but when he's a sideman, he is incredible...definitely as good as branford. listen to him on citizen tain, on the first track the Impaler. my fav trumpet solo ever

so im guessing you dont much like other music especially mixed w/ Jazz. i personally got into Branford through both his Buckshot LeFonque project and his work with hip hop MC Guru. i am a hip hop fan but i LOVE Jazz. i feel all music, when its done for the art, not profit, is respectable. therefore i hate the mainstream crap nowadays. regardless of hip hop being my favorite genre though my favorite album is A Love Supreme. im guessing you take Wyntons side in their feud, correct me if im wrong

Best tone? Branford is definitely up there. Joshua Redman is good also. George Garzone is my favorite all time so far - subject to change with the weather, of course.

I think Branford Marsalis does an excellent job on this standard. Especially given the mood of this song, a lot of musicians wouldn't know where to start. And yes, he has a very smooth sound and warm sound.

This makes me want to do one of two things: Sell my horn, or practice my face off, but it's 2:30am in Texas... I'm sure that wouldn't please my roommate!
