Peter could not have had a better band to back him up on this song. Interestingly enough, when the Simple Minds first got their start, Peter Gabriel enjoyed their music and ask them to be his opening act for a concert tour. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. And thank God that officially Apartheid and its perversions are now behind us in S.A., though the deep rooted hatred of mankind can never be erased.

riiiiight... by your logic gabriel cant sing about northern ireland as he was not from there. By my logic its a song that i heard when i was young and had no idea what went on in SA. If that is a bad thing - then i am baffled. The song it self is a powerful message if you open your ears and a commercial flop (i think) for gabriel after many releases. Not sure money was his motivation. As for what went on in Ireland - name some locals songs that cover it - will gladly listen.

I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was young back in the 1980s.
Never knew what it was about but I loved the tune. When I was in my early teens around 1992-93, I found out what the song was really about and I was amazed at the powerful tune and how music could bring out such powerful messages.

I am still amazed after all these years that posts about this song still miss the powerful political message..PG felt like many did at the time how the apartheid government treated anybody who dared to question the system. I was 16 when this was released and it shaped my political views. PG is a bloody hero
