come on......every car has weight difference. example: c63 saloon weight less than m3 convertaible (unfair), c63 saloon weight more than m3 coupe (unfair), c63 saloon weight more than m3 saloon (unfair). BMW is within a whisker of being as fast in a straight line, and similarly close if not better on a road course. It also rides better, has LEGIT rear seat, sounds 5x as good and costs ~$25k less.
Do all these rationalizations change the fact that the Porsche is a bit faster? No - it IS a bit faster. If that's the ONLY measure, the choice is clear. I'd prefer the Bimmer because of all the above. I can have a LOT of extra fun for $25k and still have my M3 'vert.

Ummm no. While a very good handling car, an M3 doesn't handle quite as well as a 911. Just look at lap times around the 'Ring.

Porsche 911 Carrera S: 7:59
This video shows they have nearly identical power to weight ratios, yet the Porsche is faster around the 'Ring. This is just down to handling. So I don't know where you are getting that the BMW is much better at "steering"

also put those 2 on a road with ANY curves at all and your going to see a porsche pull away like it's racing a ford fiesta. i have seen 2 decent similarly matched drivers, one in a porsche boxster S and one in a ferrari F430 run a few rounds on a technical track...over 4 laps the boxster right there neck to neck with the F430. on the curves the porsche looked like it was outperforming what porsche even claims it can do. after sitting in a porsche for the 1st time i realized how it was special.
