Your review of Etrian Odyssey is riddled with factual errors.
1)You never need to backtrack to town; the warpwire item is very cheap, and as long as one character survives a battle, you can teleport back to town.
2)Prices for the inn go up based on level, and only based on your level; your conclusion here was slanderous.
3)Level grinding is never necessary to defeat the FOEs; if you're not strong enough to kill FOEs yet, avoid them, as you noted yourself.
