I loved Bobby Hull's explosive and exciting style. He was my end all idol.Bobby Orr as an all around player, most arguably the best in history! Don't think too many historians would pick Gretsky first and then Orr if picking teams.I wasn't an Orr fanatic but he was GREAT! I remember being at a library once and a mother suggested helping her son on a hockey player profile.She came across Bobby Orr and the boy replied "WHO'S THAT"? True story! Too bad many never saw Orr play

Orr and Hull.great mutual respect.I wasn't an Orr fanatic but he was a TREMENDOUSLY TALENTED player!I idolized Hull's explosive style as a kid.I do appreciate those Orr fans. Nobody gave 150% every time on the ice like Orr. Seemed to be "all over the ice" as one TV commentator once replied.Orr once said that parents will see him somewhere and tell their kids to go and get that man's autograph!Kids ask who he is? Parents tell kids he was a PRETTY GOOD player.Orr humbly smiled telling the story.

Orr was an immensely talented player who could use his fists. He was a participant in one of the most lopsided brawls I've ever seen. Early in the 70's, Pat Quinn knocked Orr out cold with a blindside check. One year later, Orr got his revenge by beating the living shit outta Quinn in a fight that stopped the game for over one hour.

Gretzky, the so-called "greatest player ever" had a +/- below zero SEVEN times in his career. He was great offensively, but a lousy defensive player. He was thoroughly incapable of playing any sort of physical game. Guys like Howe, Lindsay and Richard would have chewed him up and spit him out in the 50s, when there were no "enforcers" to protect the weak. Back then, you fought your own battles. If you couldn't, you were gone. Orr would dominate any era. Unlike #99, he could play it any way.

im not going to argue that orr was a more well rounded player but there is no doubt that gretzky had the greatest hockey mind ever. so he wasn't tough, last time i checked you didn't get a goal for kicking a guys ass. gretzky was the greatest offensive force of all time. you only have to look at the impact he had and continues to have on the game to know that he is the greatest player of all time.

No one can deny that Gretzky was an offensive genius. But he had the luxury of being the most protected player ever. He operated in a "cocoon." Compare him to other superstars. Orr retired a cripple. Howe's face took over 500 stitches. Hull looked like a model when he broke in, but ended up looking like Frankenstein. Gretzky retired with barely a mark on him. How? He avoided contact, didn't backcheck, block shots, dish out hits, or protect his teammates. He's the best one-way player in history.

No. I'm saying this as someone who did grow up in the 80s watching Gretzky and Lemieux. Orr was to hockey what Bruce Lee was to martial arts or the Beatles were to Popular music. Unmatched revolutionaries. Howe was actually a generation before Orr who had a long, long career.
