Sport compacts have it hard. Cars like the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX and the 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 — along with competitors like the Honda Civic Si, Mini Cooper S and Volkswagen GTI — are expected to do mutually contradictory things with something approaching perfection. They're supposed to be quick but economical; athletic but comfortable; sporty but practical. Oh yeah, and they can't cost a lot.

ya, I like the sedan too, but the hatch is useful cause sometimes i have to carry a stroller for my son. the hatch helps with that. but damn, the price is right and that sucks for me, cause ive spent $2500 on my car to make it competative with the 09WRX... weak.

yeah exactly !! btw the salesprson keeps calling my about the 09 WRX, i told him i gotta talk to my dad or a friend to be a cosighner for me, cuz i've had my credit card for 2 yrs, and i'm 19, so but a friend of mine, who's a racer said that he can be my cosighner !! but i've got the 07 version, i soooo want the 09, so i'll keep my 07 for my dad, since at this time he doesn't have a car, and i'll get the 09 WRX !!

well duh, it costs like $13K more, for that price the STI better kill it. And besides, if I had the money, Id buy a motorcycle with the left over cash and kill any of these cars. But i blew all my extra money on moding my WRX

How did Subaru get from the GC8 to, well, that?! sad indeed! I have the classic Impreza Turbo (UK model), the Turbo being equivelant to the WRX, how has the standard slipped so far?!
Even the non STi WRX was an awesome performance machine, and looked a lot better at that!

I got my Speed 3 for $20,978 so i have no clue were this 25k number is coming from.
As for naught to 60, timed at 5.5 seconds not 6.1

well, base model MSRP for 2008 was $22,640 and with the destination fee and taxes it comes to around 25K. If you got a brand new speed3 for $20,978 with no trade in and no down payment, then you got a great deal. My buddy got an 07 with only 7K miles for $18K last spring. theres deals out there, but the 25K was the number that came up from the MSRP and fees.

if you want a stock rocket, MS3 is very awesome, but the stock tires have terrible tread wear, so plan on spending around $400-800 within the first 2 years on new tires. Also, the boost is limited in the first 2 gears because of the poor traction the tires get and engine movement. the engine mounts need to be replaced to avoid tire spin and wheel hop. It has a bigger turbo than the WRX but for tuners, the AWD and tunability of its 2.5L Subi boxer make these 2 very comparable for aftermarket guys

I completely agree. I have an 03 and this new one is just a real let down. And only the wagon? EH! I have the sedan and it is perfect why would they do that? They kind of lost me with this now one.

also, the STI is the only 1 that is only hatchback, the WRX comes in sedan. i just like the hatch cause it has more cargo room.

??? I just came out of a 06' wrx with a 6spd swap and rotated 30r (it was totaled). I bought a 08' Mazdaspeed 3, its hands down a far superior car, much more power stock, suspension is amazing, interior is great, brakes are 1" larger. Only thing missing is AWD for the rain and snow. The mechanical LSD on the mazda works very well. I will admit the subaru is the way to go if u want big power, but after blowing a trans. and engine on the subaru I'll stick with the MS3.

that I couldnt tell you. this was the explanation that i have heard. I still dont understand why they didnt ALSO have the sedan. Maybe they are just copying EVERYTHING mazda does. The speed3 only comes in hatch as well. I do wana see what my 08 WRX will do against a stock 09 now that I have a few mods.
