Extreme's 2 greatest songs are "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted". They are acoustic-based and very simple songs - this classic Rock&Roll is missing these days. The rest of their songs are generic Hard Rock. Their new album is the same generic Rock, they need to write/perform songs with the same style as the 2 mentioned above.

Here's one for ya.................
A guy that married a girl that I know through work sang this song to her at their wedding reception on Sepember 13th 2008. He used one of those machines that removes words from music that he got from somewhere and put in his own lyrics.
In the 1st verse, he described what his life was like before they started dating. In the
2nd verse he described what his life became after they srated dating. For example........

The lyric in the 1st chorus HERE goes
"There's a hole in my heart that can only be filled by you, and this hole in my heart can't be filled with the things I do."
He changed his version to
"There's a hole in my heart and nobody can fill it but you, and this hole etc. etc. etc. (like he's singing in the present tense but in the past)
And in the 2nd chorus where the line is repeated he changed his version to
"There was a hole in my heart and nobody could fill it but you.......

In this chorus he's singing in the present ABOUT the past tense. And when the lines are repeated again immediately afterwards he changes the lines again to
"There was a hole in my heart and there's no-one that filled it but you (in the present about the past tense), and now I'm so very happy with all of the things that we do.
And to illustarte his point about how his life changed when they started dating he had all of the words scrolling by in paragraphs on a portable movie screen.

So in the 1st verse he's singing to everybody in the recpetion about what his life was like BEFORE he and she got together. And the way the words were posted on the portable movie screen (like the kind that we used to have in elementary school 30 years ago), most people picked up that he was singing in the present tense about the past (like if he was singing the song 3 years ago about his life 3 years ago).

And in the 2nd verse he's singing about his life in the last 6-9 months like it's the evening of September 13th 2008.
And there was one other catchy thing about the song. Before the 2nd verse starts the words "hole hearted" appeared on the screen as "hole hearted." At the end of the 2nd verse the words appeared as "WHOLE hearted" (like his life had become fulfilled after their relationship materialized and grew).

And to top it all off, he recorded the harmony vocals for ALL parts onto the disk that the DJ used THAT NIGHT in a recording studio that a friend of his works at a few weeks earlier, and he sang the lead part LIVE into a microphone while walking around the room singing to all of the people that were in attendence, making sure to get around to the bride when it came time to sing each of the choruses, and then turning around the room while standing in one spot for the last 20 seconds or so. WOW!!

I haven't heard their newest record but I like these old songs! I saw them play in Tulsa on the 3 Sides tour and they were ONE OF THE BEST groups I've ever seen... The really are a great group of players! And yes...the world does need more music like this....
