What needs to be ... ( 2 months ago by r1066)
What needs to be said?
That he influenced the course of my life in the 1970's?
That he remains a shrewd commentator on American political life thirty years later?
That he rocks? And continues to rock?
Bruce, this beer is for you.

i'm always amazed how good this live stuff sounds, his live stuff consistently sounds better than album versions[at least when the songs fairly new,the live versions of older songs,in my opinion don't sound as good now]not many artists can make stuff sound nearly as good live, even with the gadgets they use.

I can put this song on repeat and listen to it all day. I'm 26 now and I've come to the conclusion that Bruce is the best songwriter I've had the opportunity to listen to. Music that deals with the everyday struggle of human beings and the human condition will stand the test of time while "high art" will be appreciated during its time and forgotten 20 years later.

Been following Bruce and the E Street for 31 years. They were at their peak from 78-81 no doubt. Like Little Stevie says in an interview "those were our fighten years."

yep,Iv'e been following them for more than 30 yrs.also."Born To Run" was the BREAKTHROUGH,then came the ASSAULT.This Band was GREAT even BEFORE Born To Run.Happens with most GREAT ARTISTS.The BEST work usually comes in the early years.Example:Robert De Niro did his BEST work from 1972 thru 1980.I think it's very hard to keep that "No Retreat No Surrender"( no pun intended) alive once you have reached a certain amount of success.Anyway,Bruce and the E Street Band-REMARKABLE.

This is possibly one of the best YT vids I have seen. Amazing footage - thank you for sharing.
(hardnessofthisworld) Don't entirely agree with your post, you cite Bruce & De Niro but there are so many artists who 'mature' (quality-wise) with experience that your argument will always falter. Different artists evolve differently to my mind, in fact many peopole seem to value Bruce's mid-80's work as his best (depsite Bruce's own mis-givings!), so it seems to me there are never Absolutes...

jerryfalwellsociety-No,I did not say all, I said(most)great artists. You are correct, some artists mature with experience,no doubt, but I view them as the(exception)not the rule. For me any way,Bruce is by definition a phenomenom:A once in a lifetime occurrnce. His music,to me,has been outstanding over his 40 yr career.Examples of artists where careers started great then faded:Elton John,Meryl Streep,John Mellencamp,Stallone and many more each had tremendous success early on as time went on it faded

Most great artists ... ( 3 weeks ago by ortleyman)
Most great artists do their best work when they are young and hungry. Of course their are exceptions. Bruce was 25 when he came out with "Born to Run." that album was his masterpiece. A fucking Picasso. The shows on the Darkness tour were legendary. He was in his late 20's. Actors like Brando, Deniro, Hoffman,Pacino, have done their most intense work when they were young. Watch "Lenny" with Dustin Hoffman or "Panic in Needle Park" w/Pacino and you'll see what hardessofthisworld is talkng about.

ortleyman- your 100% correct.Hoffman,Pacino,Brando,Paul Neuman ALL did brilliant work early on. Of course, there's always exceptions.
