Really? I thought it was based on John Kerry's experiences (you know, the ones that are allegedly "seared" into his memory). Was it also based on Brian dePalma's experiences in "Casualties of War" also? My Uncle Jim was a Vietnam Veteran also. If he did a Vietnam movie showing the Americans as the GOOD GUYS, would you watch that?

Platoon came out in 1986.
I actually thought We Were Soldiers was a very good movie. Just because a movie portrays soldiers who aren't the GI Joe, Audie Murphy, steroetype doesn't mean it's bad.

I entered the U.S. Army in August 1973. I was 18 at the time and nearly all of our drill sergeants and many officers had BOTH the CIB (Combat Infantryman's Badge)and the yellow and red stripe Republic of Vietnam campaign/tour decoration on their boards. These guys were awesome, and very humble too. It took a lot of prodding to get them to relate the fighting, but they would talk about it some. The North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong lost every battle and campaign against us.

I am thankful. Like in Afghanistan our troops are protecting people from the tali Ban (That's the rebel group with AK 47's and RPG's). What he TaliBan ae doing is spreading fear among thier people and they think that harsh dictatorship is the way to rule Afghanistan.
Now the war in Afghaistan and in Iraq won't end until 2015 or 2025...
Until it ends, let's pray for our troops for a safe journey home.....

I seriously don't understand why everyone is bringing up world war two and other irrelevant crap. The speech is about when men
going to battle, but at the same time leave their differences behind. So enough with the inappropriate comments. Also this movie is class, maybe one of the best vietnams films of all time? who knows xD
