| Yeah the only reason they know about it is because of Vargas(OBVIOUSLY!). You said it wouldve died for the same reason. Ok, thats understandable, but the reason why people are anal about this is because Vargas had the option to take the dog and feed it. But the fucker didnt and he tied it to a pole. | I love ya phil but I guess I dont get it when u say the dog wouldve died for the same reason anyway. If the guy wouldnt have tied him up he wouldve starved anyway? Well regardless its absolutely not art and very wrong. You cant harm a person for arts sake why should you be able to harm an animal for arts sake? They dont even want you harming animals for sciences sake and that's way more important! |

| i think its wrong BUT it shows that humans care more about a starving dog than they do about starving children in 3rd world countries. we turn a blind eye to a group of starving people but when one DOG (of an inferior species) is starved we are all, "OMG, hes a WACKO!" come on ppl, seriously! |

| There is a difference between tying a dog up and letting it starve, and letting it run free, with at least the opportunity to get something to eat. Seeing a poor helpless animal starve is no more art than seeing children starve in 3rd world countries. Granted, it's a dog. Children are definitely more important, however, it's the same principle. |

| Why not just starve a human baby, and call it art when you get it's corpse photographed ? How is that art ? It's not. It's just fucking cruel. I could say " I shit breakfast ,lunch, and dinner every morning",(technically true) but does that mean we should all say grace after I walk out of the bathroom ? Hardly ! The dog, the dead baby, and shitting meals to eat, is all pointless ! To hell with the "artist" that did that to a dog. |

| Except its not pointless. It is cruel, but it also makes a valid point. Whether you think that point outweighs the cruelty is of course up to you; I think it does, because of the obvious fact that the dog would have died anyways, so the net result of the artist's action was no negative impact on the dog, and a positive impact on society (or at least it would have a positive effect if people actually reflected on it). Of course, if he did it again, then that would no longer hold true. |

| The point is that everyone makes a big deal out of this one dog, even going so far as to start activist groups in protest of it, while in comparison with the atrocities committed systematically everyday, their efforts could be spent much more productively; but people react more to the cute individual tragedy than the ugly truth. This point can only be demonstrated, so the one dog must die. Two dogs would be redundant, and thus cruel. The dog was a street dog, with no owner, and thus doomed. |

| Mmmm, he's not mexican, he's from Costa Rica (not that it changes anything, just a little FYI). I think that what he did was beyond horrible - for the record I'm an animal lover (not in a weird way! vegetarian,animal rights, etc...)- but I think that there's a lot of other animal-related situations that should be JUST AS SHOCKING to everybody as this, like the way they treat the animals that end up on your dinner table, but that doesn't happen. I guess pigs and cows are just not as cute? :( |

| Pretending that it is a real doing, yes, it was a work of art, but it was also incredibly inhumane. It demonstrated the idea of one death working people up more than, say, the earthquake in Sichuan, China, that killed over 69,000 people. 69,000 is too big of a number for people to really comprehend, while someone starving a dog to death is just like... 'holy sh*t.' So it was wrong to let the dog die, but now that the act is done, I can see whatever logic the committer could have had. |
