In the video the hair light is too strong. If I remember correctly the ratio between the main lamp and the hair light should be something like 1:1 or 2:1. Also, be careful that your lights don't merge together.

The lighting in this video is too strong. Use his technique and theory, but go for lighter wattage bulb for the hair light.

The actual photo may be properly exposed when printed or veiwed on calibrated computer monitor. You can't proberly judge exposure by viewing it on a low quality video. Usefull tips however.
