the film is about the surfing possibilities in munich, bavaria.. expecially the eisbach, a very cold, wild and also a bit dangerous river, which is very popular here.

First saw people surfing the Isar 25 years ago. It's fantastic, but I prefer North Devon. No walls. :-) Hope they manage to build an artifical reef in Munich. Okotberfest and waves..

Can someone translate some of this? Like what is he saying when he is talking about the dangers of surfing on the river? The part where he's making a motion of the leg getting cut above the knee?

River surfing is forbidden in Munich and the surfers used to removed by the police but today they are tolerated. There are 18 stone blocks under the surface of the river which form the wave. What the guy is saying where he makes the hand motion from the knee is that it has been seen that one surfer had his knee-cap ripped off and the underlying joint was open to see. Only experienced surfers are capable of surfing this stationary wave and novices run the danger of being sucked under the "wave".

It's also a tourist attraction as I can testify, having spent an hour watching them aswell. The conditions are always the same. The wave is always there and always the same, which allows better training conditions. I must also add that typically un-german, they are completely democratic in taking turns and the amount of time spent on the wave. NO STUPID COMMENTS. You are talking to someone with more than 20 years of living here. Hope that helps you.
