The 917 was considered a widowmaker early on. Took a lot of work to keep it on the track.

well no shit. 1100 HP in a very light car.
Apparently they had to cut 2 feet off the rear end (body) of the car because the car wanted to fly.
Also, these cars were hazardous to other drivers because of the vortices coming off of the car. they could suck the opponent cars off of the road.
