Thalia welcomes baby girl

Hello, it's Tuesday the 9 of October 2007. I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update.
Mexican pop star Thalia is a new mom. She and her husband, music executive Tommy Mattola welcomed a baby girl on Sunday in New York. Her name is Sabrina and the singer's rep says she happy and healthy. Sabrina is Mattola's third child and the first for Thalia.
Tom Cruise's new film has hit another bump in the road. Some footage of his new movie "Valkyrie" has been ruined and needs to be re-shot. Filmmakers in Germany spent months trying to get permission from the government there to tape in the historical area of Bendler Block. Now it all has to be re-done. A German newspaper says the wrong kind of chemical was used to treat the footage and it's completely unusable. "Valkyrie" is about a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
Ben Affleck is making his directorial debut in the new film "Gone Baby Gone." He and the movie's cast hit the red carpet last night for the premiere of the crime drama in Los Angeles. Affleck's brother Casey stars in the film as well as Michelle Monaghan and Amy Ryan. It's about two detectives investigating a kidnapping. The Affleck brothers film is scheduled for a release on October 19.
Bryan Adams is using his music to promote peace in the Middle East. The singer says he'll headline two peace concerts next week. The shows will reportedly be part of the OneVoice Movement, calling for an end to violence between Israel and Palestine. He plans to perform in the West Bank and then head to Tel Aviv for the second show. Several other events and festivals are also set to take place on the same day around the world.
One Oregon man smashed records with the largest pumpkin at a California contest. Thad Starr won the annual Half Moon Bay competition yesterday with a 1,524 pound pumpkin...beating last year's record by 300 pounds. Starr beat the standing champion, a farmer from Washington who won the past few years. Starr's squash is just short of the state record and more than 100 pounds less than the world record.
