Toriton Plus: Water Surface as Music Controller II

Video Description:
More info: http://little-scale.blogspot.com/2006/11/toriton-plus.html
A slightly more complex version of using a water surface as a music controller featuring five lasers instead of just the one. Please note that this is a prototype version, and as such does not represent the variety of output for the finished thing.

a question for the creator, is this just a control surface? I'm not really interested in unique control surfaces per se, unless its the water generating the tones acoustically. it seems that its just the obstruction of the laser thats setting off a synth.. eh. i do find what's interesting here is the connection between the visual and the auditory. i'd like to see slo mo with multiple ripples and waves done by objects of different sizes. regardless, thanks

what is or isnt music is determined by the listener. a musician will be walking through town and hear the harmony between a buzzing air conditioner and a truck, hear an apparent rhythm from three non linked events, to that end, as a listener, music is the degree to which you hear order in chaos. rain falling on this would technically be random, but i guarantee people would pick out rhythms.

hi there, the action of the water is doing more than just triggering a sound - the state of the water is controlling the volume level of a waveform (one for each laser) -- this information is updated constantly.

Listen, you gearheads have nothing for me. you need to be a little more creative before you do your "music". i am not a purist. it doesn't matter though, people don't play instruments like they used to, what with all the MACHINES people keep coming up with. it's art, it's science, you haven't proven to me yet that it's music. penis joke? i'm afraid you'd be the stupid one. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
