As long as these governments are contain many democratic elements, work on the basis of limited and seperated power they can. No one likes stalin, as matter of fact no socialist I ever meet regarded stalinism, maoism or smiluar systems are truly socialistic nor desirable system. If the means of productions are controlled by an authoritarian vanguard the worker remains a slave. Still, there are plenty alternatives to capitalism which don't involve the state, such as workplace democracy.

I don't think their is a 'perfect' definiton, neither of capitalism nor socialism, you will always have grey areas open to interpretation. Means of production owned by individuals as private property.

I think many Libs idolize the founding fathers a little too much. it could get annoying, fast. It is the ideas we cherish. Not them, unconditionally.
Patriotism is stupid. Yes, love liberty, but an Ideal Nation would still have land and people that aren't inherently superior to other people.

Instead of using BAD examples of Socialism, such as the USSR, which wasn't even socialist to begin with, why not use examples such as Sweden and Finland. Both countries are socialist and have low rates of unemployment, a very small prison population, free healthcare for it's citizens, high standards of education and some of the most stable economies in the world. Please, learn to think for yourself about socialism before you give in to 60's era propaganda.

They are not socialists. They have very big government policies, and high unemployment actually. Averages 12% They have a small prison population because they have Libertarian social policies in regards to drugs, prostitution, gambling, victumless crimes in general. So there isn't as much to go to jail for to begin with. (That's small government not big) They still operate under free market capitalism.

You didn't understand my post. Civil Liberty wise, the government is small. Economically, they have a big overbearing state. Nevertheless it isn't a good system. Very high unemployment, little technological innovation due to lack of competition, it's not a sustainable institution.
