Nick Drake - Fly

Uploaded by: madcap66laughs
Video Description:
Please give me a second grace
Please give me a second face
I've fallen far down
The first time around
Now I just sit on the ground in your way
Now if it's time to recompense for what's done
Come, come sit down on the fence in the sun
And the clouds will roll by
And we'll never deny
It's really too hard for to fly.
Please tell me your second name
Please play me your second game
I've fallen so far
For the people you are
I just need your star for a day.
So come, come ride in my my street-car by the bay
For now I must know how fine you are in your way
And the sea sure as I
But she won't need to cry
For it's really too hard for to fly.

You know, I am a ... ( 1 month ago by vbarbarino)
You know, I am a musician and songwriter myself, how in the world have I never heard his music? How is it that nobody ever suggested him, or mentioned him to me? Two days ago, by fluke, this was in my YouTube suggested to watch list. I did recognize the name, so I watched and listened. My jaw hit the floor. Immediately, I started to research him on the net, thinking "what else has he done, does he still perform live?" Then I hit Wikipedia and see that he passed in 1974. Absolutely tragic.

I feel like crying when I hear this song and think of the brilliant artist that tragically faded away. All his three albums have helped me throughout my youth.

I envy you. I remember the feeling of wonder I experienced when I first discovered his music. I got obsessed with many more musicians since then but nothing quite comparable to my first few weeks listening to Nick Drake.

Yes - but he is ... ( 3 weeks ago by Richmichcrow)
Yes - but he is still alive somewhere, just in another dimension! Some people are just too sensitive for this world, and Nick was one of them. So he left quickly, having felt and done as much as he could bear. Now, he has left us some beautiful sounds and phrases to remember him by. But we will all see and here him again - just not here or yet!
i feel incredibly ... ( 3 weeks ago by aachelabelaaron)
i feel incredibly impoverished i did not have his songs in my childhood (when they were recorded). how could the world and the music industry at the time have been so completely blind to the power of these tunes? i can't figure it out. it must have been his personal problems standing in the way, otherwise it makes no sense...

He refused to tour, out of social anxiety. So nobody could have known of his music but a few people.
The fact that he ... ( 3 weeks ago by VoonlapseMertigo)
The fact that he dies so young makes his music sound all the more precious..
at the risk of sounding like a monster, I'd say the quality of his work would have deteriorated had not offed himself and gained the popularity that he deserved..
Now I sound like a jerk..I don't know..
I'm just glad he gave something taht alleviates the general shittiness of this world to some extent..

You make a good point. But we'll never know will we?
Something unusual and precious about this boy, is all I can say. Without even trying, he touched everyone that knew him.

I was so lucky to buy this record in 1973 - it was very cheep and I did buy it because of the members of Fairport Convention that were there.
It has been among my favorites since, but I must say he has almost been a little famous most of the time. He was often mentioned when Jeff Buckley has his much too short time.
There exist a (cd) boxset whith all material (Nick goes best on vinyl)

Whether his music ... ( 3 days ago by songblam)
Whether his music would have been as popular if he had lived is irrelevant. What's done is done. His songs are classics.
The airwaves are not agents of satan...They just have no sense of class or awareness of things better... I don't even listen to 'them' anymore. There's no need when there's things like Nick Drake to discover, which I have only recently... Love ya Nick...
his sister said so. ... ( 2 days ago by grollets)
his sister said so...allegedly, he also tried to kill himself by hanging in 1973
I prefer the 'what the heck' theory, i.e. no planned suicide and no accidental death either
