Chaos, disorder and violence are the common definitions of anarchY. However, anarchISM is a political philosophy having no direct relationship with these things. If ever there is a large anarchist revolution in the future (as there has been in the past), such tactics may be used as a MEANS to a (hopefully) peaceful END.
I prefer the less-bloody evolutionary route, however; I see that as more progressive. I don't think that we will convert to an anarchist society primarily by revolution.

Chaos, disorder, ect.. are not the common definitions of anarchy.. they are the common results of anarchy. The philosophy of anarchism produces these things when it's put into practice, especially on a large scale. when has there ever been an anarchist revolution? Rejecting one form of government, to create a new form of government, does not equate to revolution in the name of anarchism. Anarchism will NEVER come about.. even if it did, by peaceful means, the peace wouldn't last five minutes.

Anarchy can come peacefully, but it will only be when society works past its preconceived notions of itself and can accept all men as brothers. When the rich AND poor realize that there is no meaning behind their materialism.
That may be hundreds of years from now. Hell, we may wipe each other out before that happens but it could happen.
Honestly though, we probably kill each other A LOT more before this happens.... so sad.

It isn't that anarchy can't come peacefully, it is just that the state and even the general population is poised to resist it which leads to conflict. I wish there could be a happy medium but as I grow older I realize that it has just become less and less achievable.
