Artificial Intelligence Will Destroy Us All

Uploaded by: ZWilsonFilms
Video Description:
A compilation of movies in which artificial intelligence finds a way to destroy us. I compiled it for a class that I wrote a paper on the subject at Emerson College. So I though why not put it on here? So I did.

No. We are not ... ( 2 months ago by malintome)
No. We are not intelligent at all. Some of us can not understand, that we are limited by our hardware. Machines can replace their hardware, or add more hardware. AI may combine with each other to be better. Humans fight against each other. What is a group of humans in the comparison with a swarm of machines?
Simple: a computer ... ( 2 months ago by Samus234567)
Simple: a computer can only do what is it designed or programmed to do. It can do something it's not already programmed to unless additional programming is designed and added. Humans, however, have an infinite capacity to evolve and learn on our own, dependent on our own determination to do so. We are designed to find a way to do what we can't do.
Question: Why is ... ( 2 months ago by Samus234567)
Question: Why is the general fear that sentient artificial intelligences will attempt to wipe out the human race? Sentient means an ability to make a decision, and ability to choose between right and wrong. Therefore; sentient A.I.s are just likely to behave like a human as a human is.
Conclusion: The general fear of robot insurrection in the future is paranoia. Robots won't wipe us out unless we give them a definable reason to do so.
Simple: a can only ... ( 2 months ago by malintome)
Simple: a can only do what it is designed to, but once we design it to think on it own and evolve, it will evolve and it will learn dependent on its own choices.
Answer: it will not wipe us out, but it will do something, that we are not capable of - it will use an unnatural selection on all of us. In its reasoning this will be for the greater good.
frankly speaking, ... ( 1 month ago by davidwizard2006)
frankly speaking, don't anybody think wiping out the human is a great deed in many senses, that make all human appears trivial, instead of making human have a chance to dominate each other, and show superiority to each other
If you look at ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
If you look at human history, all technologically-advanced civilisations end up causing massive death and damage to any technologically-inferior civilisation they encounter. AIs might not wipe us out, therefore, but we'd lose 99% of the population and the rest of us would either end up caged in zoos or in small, isolated reservations, depending on how AIs in the future perceive us.
death and damage ... ( 3 weeks ago by newsads)
death and damage are not due to technology, but to man lacking civilisation. you can build a house with a hammer, or kill someone with it, but don't blame the hammer
I agree that aliens ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
I agree that aliens might think differently from Mankind as regards taking over. But, arguably, all created offspring, tend to imitate their creators/parents sooner or later, and there are basic drives, such as the urge to survive/competition for scarce resources, which would be present in any sentient lifeform.
yes, and then ... ( 3 weeks ago by newsads)
yes, and then evolution happens and the lifeforms grows up (first some "master" individuals, then the whole species) and moves from survival to fully expressed creativity
A sentient robot ... ( 3 weeks ago by Samus234567)
A sentient robot wouldn't have these drives. These drives are instinct, NATURAL, not sentient, processes. Notice many humans deny these drives for a life of kindness and contemplation. Also, you completely failed to refute my statement. All the fears about robots wiping out humans are paranoia. A sentient robot would behave JUST LIKE A HUMAN. It wouldn't do anything a human wouldn't. If you think the robots will destroy the human race, then you think the human race will destroy itself.
Yep, that's right. ... ( 3 weeks ago by Samus234567)
Yep, that's right. It's good to kill a baby just because it might do something evil in the future.
Also, if humans get wiped out, then all of the good humans get slaughtered with the bad humans. Making the righteous pay along with the sinners is WRONG.
"So long, Farewell, you have been formally DISMISSED."
You're missing the ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
You're missing the point. If AIs will behave like humans do,as you claim, then they, being more intelligent than us,will treat us in much the same way as we treat species which are less intelligent than us(ie either kill most or all of us via genocide(humans after all wiped out the dodo/passenger-pidgeon etc. etc.),or they'll keep a few human survivors as pets in zoos etc
Another thing I ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
Another thing I question is the notion that a sentient AI wouldn't have the urge to survive or compete for scarce resources - these are, after all, basic traits of even non-sentient animals - without these traits such animals couldn't carry on living. So, once an AI became able to function as an independent being, as opposed to an inanimate object mindlessly obeying human commands, it would start competeing for resources/removing threats much like any other lifeform on Earth.
These "basic traits ... ( 3 weeks ago by Samus234567)
These "basic traits" are based on natural instinct, not coherent thought. Thinking AI wouldn't have these qualities.
AIs wouldn't be smarter than humans. An AI could only learn as much info as WE know. An AI would just have better info recall than a human. The ability to think merely means it can make decisions based on more than just instinct. Animals THINK but only based on instinct. The differences between a sentient AI and a human are no so vast as to cause one to view the other as inferior.
Your ignorance is ... ( 3 weeks ago by Samus234567)
Your ignorance is noted. The dodo and passenger pigeon were ACCIDENTS. Those were in days before we had the amount of knowledge we do now. A robot would have such knowledge readily available, and would also recognize our own sentience. You fail to realize that we don't treat animals as animals because of the lack of intelligence, but because of the lack sentience, coherent thought based on more than just instinct. If you're going to make an argument, make sure it's applicable to modern times.
I'm afraid you've ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
I'm afraid you've ignored the obvious that we are wiping out specuies at a phenomenal rate, to an even greater extent, nowadays(the chinese river dolphin to name 1 of 1000s of recent extictions). If an AI became more advanced than us(a very likely possibility given that even nonsentient computers can even beat most of us at chess),then it would view us in the same way as we viewed the chinese river dolphin/dodos etc.Sure, the AIs might also wipe us out by accident, but that won't do us much good
You're missing the ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
You're missing the point again. An AI's programming is the exact same equivalent of human instincts. Most scientists , after all, view humans merely as biological machines, driven by instincts(ie bioogical programming) to propagate our genes via offspring. All beings with some sort of mind will have the urge to survive, to be able to even exist for any length of time, so AIs will also have that urge.
YOU'VE PROVED MY ... ( 3 weeks ago by Samus234567)
YOU'VE PROVED MY POINT. A sentient AI would
1.)Be just as smart as human, because a robot couldn't have any additional info its creator didn't have.
2.)Do everything a human would
3.)Not do anything a human wouldn't
Basically, a sentient AI would be just like a human. It would recognize our own sentience. Also, it would have no REASON to.
Also, our survival instincts are part of our genes. A robot wouldn't have "survival instincts" like an animal unless programmed with them.
I'm sorry, but it's ... ( 3 weeks ago by Samus234567)
I'm sorry, but it's very clear to me you are not listening. Please see my closing arguments though, if you haven't yet. All of your suppositions are based on FEAR, an emotion that can distort our logic. My reasons have been based on REASON, rational thinking.
Your arguments have also been redundant and poorly chosen. Discover what it means to be sentient, then we can continue. To close, I site that the human race hasn't killed itself. If it hasn't killed itself, why would another sentient? End.
Whether the human ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
Whether the human race has killed itself or not is irrelevant to the argument, of course. We're talking about humans killing other species and AIs killing humans, not about humans or AIs killing themselves.
This is absurd. It ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
This is absurd. It is logical to assume that AIs, being so widely different from humans, will have a totally different culture from humans, but they have to have the same innate instincts/programming as humans as regards basic urges such as survival, as otherwise they couldn't exist. As AIs are not limited by organic evolution(too large a brain and humans wouldn't fit in the birth-canal) they can easily surpass humans. Plus, if AIs were superior, they would view us then as pets or vermin.
As regards the ... ( 3 weeks ago by Loki0115)
As regards the issue of programming, it's not necessarily true that AIs could only do what they were programmed with. As AIs became more sentient, they would be able to gain the ability to alter their programming up to a point, much like humans, and therefore surpass humanity and most likely wipe us out.
As I said, it's ... ( 3 weeks ago by Samus234567)
As I said, it's clear to me you are not listening and do not understand human mental and educational evolution.
If sentient robots would destroy humanity, then I fervently believe God will not allow us to achieve such a level of technology.
Now this conversation is over. Examples you've used are true, but you're manner of usage is grossly inappropriate and shows a lack of understanding of nature. You will not acknowledge the truth of my arguments. In such a contest, there is no winner. Fin.
