Why are people asking for a bigger nanny state? Whatever happened to the belief in freedom? After all, freedom is what creates prosperity. Shouldn't people be allowed to choose what they want without having it forced on them? Let people voluntarily pay into a universal health fund but don't force us all to pay. Politicians can't repeal the laws of supply and demand. The real answer is to get government entirely out of the health care industry and expose it to proper competition.

No, "proper competition" has only made it skyrocket. The reason it works for EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY is because it's not profit-based. An item that costs $5 is not blown up to the preposterous sum of $1000 by the time it gets to the patient.

There's nothing wrong with having a basic universal health care coverage, and still having supplemental insurance. That's what we have in Canada, and it seems to work pretty well.

Yes just look at the gross failure socializing the Fire department was. . . People should have a choice between the socialized fire department and choosing their own private fire department. Roads. . man what a failure socializing highways and streets were. We should be able to choose between the government streets and privately run streets. . . You see where this is going? Have we given UPS or others a chance? Why do you think companies and many peoplehave private security. A great many fire departments are subscription. Yes there is private industry that loans out books and internet access and your library is not free. How about the Golden Gate Bridge? One payer system is the only way to go.
Private health insurance is a private tyranny that only exists in United States. It's a rather barbaric system that tells you you're health is only worth what you can afford.
People in United States should get behind, and support, HR 676. If you don't know what it is learn about it! GM & Ford are going bankrupt because of the rising cost of health care. If United States had single-payer system, the companies wouldn't have to worry about it.
