Canada's relaxed attitude towards dope is straining its relationship with the US. It's coming under heavy pressure to crack down on the cannabis culture.
The statistics are phenomenal - the marijuana industry in British Columbia is worth more than 7 billion and it is Canada's 3rd biggest export. For them, Marc Emery, the self-styled "Prince of Pot" who has created a media industry and seed business out of the drug, is a hero. America threatens Emery with extradition. If convicted he could face up to 35 years in jail. Canadians accuse the Americans of "operating like a bully". However, US authorities are determined to shut down what a senior Drug Enforcement Agency official has dubbed "massive criminal enterprise".

The only group of people that gain from marijuana being illegal is drug dealers and mafia and every single peace of the illegal supply chain that only seek to profit. If drugs were legal and controlled and its distribution to minors was unlawful and punishable with great penalties then it would be harder to find for children and minors but today they are targets which can and will be hit by those seeking only to profit. there are reasons for the U.S. making cannabis illegal. 1) oil companies: Rockefeller and the DuPont family paid ridiculous amounts of money to make it illegal. they didnt want to compete against the hemp industry so they helped to get rid of it. 2) alcohol & tobacco: they too played a big roll in the same way, they knew they couldnt sell as much with people smoking bud. 3) cotton and tree paper: they also would not exist if cannabis was legal because paper and clothes were produced from hemp.
