the lyrics are totally contradictory to this video... obviously the man doesn't think that losing all of his things is 'no loss.' he's willing to fight to the death about his material treasure here, but in the lyrics is portrayed as more transcendentalist who can survive on just a rabbit and an ox. in fact, the man in the lyrics is the polar opposite of the man in the video. perhaps Midlake doesn't want us to understand? the mystery is part of their charm, apparently.

catcrazy, perhaps Midlake didn't intend for the viewer to look that deeply into the video's meaning, hehe. There are so many artists who do that, try to look meaningful and deep by making obscure videos, and end up confusing everyone - doing a media studies degree makes you look at things in a different light, I recon.
This is an awesome song, I love anything in this vein of music. Any recommendations?
