Remember the pre-cable days huddled around the old black and white TV, fidgeting with the antenna to get WSBK TV38 to come in to see the Bruins?
And who can forget doing a jig to the opening tune by the Ventures ("Nutty")!
These clips are a little "grainy" and seen best when viewed in the smaller screen but they are a reminder of the days of watching the Bruins before NESN (great reception today, but the team was way better then).
And, of course, the best Bruin of them all (and greatest all around player ever!) wore Number Four!

Wow! You think Orr wasn't anywhere near Gretzky as a playmaker? Point totals alone are misleading. Gretzky played center in the wide open "shotgun" hockey of the 80s, where 50 goal shooters were a dime a dozen. He had a much better group of finishers than Orr. He was protected by goons and had none of the defensive responsibilities of Orr. Despite operating from his own end in a much tougher, more defensive era Orr still managed 102 assists. Every bit as impressive as any of Wayne's numbers.

Well said. Earlier this year I was listening to a Leaf game on the radio, and during a pause they were talking about who the greatest player ever was. Both announcers chose Orr. Play-by-play man Dennis Bayak's reason was simple: He'd never seen another player who could pick up the puck behind his own net and go through every player on the other team, and no one could stop him. Orr's legendary rushes remain the most awesome and exciting display of pure hockey skill in history.

i saw Orr ...i was about 4 when i saw him first play... I remember Orr and Espo where everywhere it seeemed. Derek was almost bigger when i was about 4 - say 1969..As far as Orr vs Gretzky i would never compare them. Orr played against weaker competition unless it was canadiens... one might want to see how he did against the canadiens lifetime to see how good he might have been when Gretzky played.

everytime Bobby Orr was on the ice it was a one-on-none play. Why? Because Orr could skate through mud if he had to. He was that great. Beyond anything anybody will ever see. Best comparision is Michael Jordan in Basketball. They weren't great, they were outerworldly talented. Everybody in hockey was on the ground and Orr was flying 30 000 feet above everyone. How can you catch a man that high? You can't LOL. Orr is the best ever hockey player. Second best is not even close (Sorry Gretzky LOL).

Personally, I think that every time Boston would send Bobby Orr out onto the ice they should have been penalized for "too many men"...he was that much better than any other 2 players combined.
