The Myth of the Liberal Media: The Propaganda Model of News

Uploaded by: ChallengingMedia
Video Description:

Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky demolish one of the central tenets of our political culture, the idea of the "liberal media." Instead, utilizing a systematic model based on massive empirical research, they reveal the manner in which the news media are so subordinated to corporate and conservative interests that their function can only be described as that of "elite propaganda."

I don't know what your point is with those movies but OK!, but what is funny is the Matrix is about control and keeping people subdued to uphold there power over them, and then there are the people who are unplugged and then those who are those so dependent on the system they will do anything to protect it, thats were you come in, so blinded by those you follow that you defend there lies and distortions while there keeping you in a box taking power and free thought, but it's never to late!

The Prospect/Foreign Policy list of 100 global public intellectuals suggested that the age of the great oppositional thinker was over, but Noam Chomsky's emphatic victory shows many remain nostalgic for it.

Holy shit!!! This is the most bullshit idiotic video I have ever seen. LOL, are even you brainwashed liberals dumb enough to believe this bullshit? The fact that a logical, coherent criticism of the idea of a vastly rightwing media, which is believed by only a tiny minority of political extremists, can ellicit such a vile and irrational response from you is proof that you are infact the brainwashed one. Show me any proof that the media is conservative; one that isn't made up by Anarchists and Communists.
Actually Chomsky is ... ( 22 hours ago by timleebee)
Actually Chomsky is a liberal. He is a neo-left winger. He argues liberal viewpoints and didn't deny being labeled a liberal in his interview with William F. Buckley in 1969 on vietnam. To say that one who argues and upholds liberal viewpoints is not liberal is, I believe, an attempt to be evasive. This evasiveness is a tactic of liberal ideologues.

Hey, there are ... ( 21 hours ago by timleebee)
Hey, there are plenty of left-wing comments on this page as well. But to put it in perspecetive, this is Chomsky (a liberal - and don't try and tell me he isn't one) telling us there isn't a liberal bias in the media when it is clear to anyone that there is one. You have to read between the lines here. Liberal reporters try and make it sound like they are just simply reporting the news when they are obviously biased. Like Chris Matthews and "Hardball." It's not hardball at all. It's fluff.
If you look at all ... ( 21 hours ago by TheDalinkwent)
If you look at all the bullshit over the eight years, thats proof that there is no such thing as the liberal media, Bush did war crimes that have been confirmed, yet the only news station to report it was CBS and that was ounce, yet when the Clinton scandal broke it was font page and headline news for months, FBI agents were even investgating Monica's Dress, yet war crimes, torture, treason, false intelligence somehow fall on def ears.

Dalink,
It's not really so much the news stories themselves I question because even negative ones can be spun to work in a positive direction and vice versa. Take, for instance, the Clinton scandal. It's arguable that Bill Clinton became even more popular after the scandal.
I look more at the rhetoric used by the anchors and show hosts. This is a more accurate clue-in to bias.

Again with the ... ( 16 hours ago by timleebee)
Again with the Clinton scandal, his increased popularity may be due to the portrayal, by the media, of the Kenneth Starr investigation team as a victimizing force against Clinton.
Therefore, the story itself becomes less important and the rhetoric surrounding the story as a spinning tool rises to importance whether conservative or liberal.
The media is ... ( 14 hours ago by ericlebo)
The media is liberaly bias but the news stations and commentators is irrelevant and is main point that people fail to see. The liberaly bias media really comes in throught the television programs and movies we go to see. People wake up Hollywood is where the real liberal bias is at.
So your saying the ... ( 14 hours ago by TheDalinkwent)
So your saying the intense coverage of the Bill Clinton scandal was somehow spun in his favor? look his approval ratings didn't drop because even those who who were not in his party thought it was bullshit, I mean spending 12 million of tax payer money to talk about his sex life is madness, but regardless if they could be so concerned with a blow job then war crimes and treason should register a pulse also, if it wasn't for the internet god knows what Bush could get away with.
Wow is there ... ( 14 hours ago by TheDalinkwent)
Wow is there something in the water, look lets see if history repeats itself, lets see if the media will give Obama a pass during his term, now if he's impeached for some dumbshit and it's headline news and you guys still call liberal bias, then all I can say is so long to logic and common sense.
Well, I'm not ... ( 9 hours ago by timleebee)
Well, I'm not really trying to debate the point of whether or not it was worth pursuing Clinton for a sex scandal. I do think that we should have a president who is good to his wife, but my main point is about the rhetoric and how important it is to media bias.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Fortunately my education extends back and beyond 1968. So you can say I am "controlled" all you like. It won't change your own historical amnesia. Guess you missed his article about how America has a one party system. He takes a true statement and offers you an antiquated solution. He offers you Serfdom with a fancy Scientific name. Be controlled. You deserve it. You are ready for a master.
