Brain surgery in awake patient

Pt. with brain tumor being operated while awake. This is done by me(Dr.P.K.Jha, Delhi) , in order to ensure that the vital brain functions like speech and limb movements are not damaged while the tumor is still being removed. The patient must stay awake so the doctors know they are doing everything right.
They poke around in her brain and if she is unable to do normal body functions, they know they are doing something wrong.

The brain does not have nerves.

There are no nerves in the brain so therefore the patient feels nothing. However, when the neurosurgeon probes different areas of the brain the patient may start moving there fingers or shaking their arm. Also, this is how they find out (In a patient with epilepsy) the region in the brain where the seizures are occuring. The difficult and scary part is that a mistake could be fatal to the person getting surgery.

I think they use local anesthesia as well in the skull.
I wonder how they put back all the skull pieces..

i believe the reason why they keep the patient awake is so they won't go into a comba or faint in their sleep (if it is possible). I think they make them read something aloud maybe. It's kinda interesting though but tell me if i'm wrong! lol
