They were being asked if they were a Christian band so they just made their name HIM.

I don't really think they are goth rock too... before they were goth rock, now they are closer to metal then before.
I don't think people can really lable them...
They officially changed it to him; it's quoted by Ville that too many people thought that they were an religious band, so HIM it was.
It's true that they released a record or so as His Infernal Majesty [H.I.M.] but they did change their name.
Him & The Rasmus are both great.
Classifying is imperfect & thus influenced by taste, & anyone who can't deal with that simply gives up and calls the attempt "labelling".
Love metal does not exist because if we call all of TR's musical explorations subgenres, any chart of rock or metal subjenres is going to look like a knit sweater run through a blender a few times.
Lastly, anyone who thinks I don't like TR needs to read my comment; I was complementing their creativity.
