Yes, you are correct. He now endorses Yamaha instruments and plays an 82Z with no lacquer. I heard him live at Sweet Basil in NY in June 1990 and he was playing a vintage MarkVI then.

Phil definitely has more "bop vocabulary" then Dave. But to say Phil rips the piss out of the end of Dave's solo is a bit exaggerant. Phil basically started where Dave left off. It's NOT a competition, those days in jazz are way over. If you don't see that your looking at the music at the wrong way.

try getting a richie cole signature meyer (this is an exact copy internally of his vintage NY meyer) then have it refaced by someone and it is likely to play very well - perhaps not quite a genuine NY meyer but fairly close and a few hundred dollars cheaper.

Who cares what reeds they use? All that shit evolves during a career of playing. As your chops get stronger, you will change up reeds. Everyone that play professionally has their own evolution of artistic thought. Worry about yourself, and take in as much as you can from records, and teachers.

I hear ya man ! I've played on both Lavoz and Rico reeds and I like the Rico's. I think once you've reached the level that these guy at at it dosent matter !!! Remember - Bird played on a lot of crappy horns (pawn shop specials) and still played great !! ya dig !!!

This cat was in "DOWN BEAT" magazine all the time and listed in the readers servey as the best ALTO SAX player for many years. Sanborn was on the list but Phil was allways number one!!! CHECK IT OUT!!!!
