No metal plates were installed after the surgery. The surgeon's assistant removed all the skull fragments, assembled them as a jigsaw puzzle on a clean cloth, then re-inserted them into the patient's brain. They sewed up the scalp, it fused within 5-7 days, and now the patient is able to type, walk, dance, ski, just like a regular guy!!
